Lumberer Island
Lumberer Island
Update 1.3 released (Might require a reset to unlock all new features)
Follow the development on X, Instagram or BlueSky
Lumberer Island is a small semi-idle game where you play as a lone lumberjack stranded on an island. Plant trees, chop them down, and earn Experience and Gold to upgrade your skills and increase your income.
This game started as a personal hobby project and is now being released in a sort of Early Access state. At the moment, there isn’t a true ending, other than reaching the maximum tree level, but I would like to expand the game with more content and features over time, if the game gets enough interest.
Your feedback and suggestions are highly appreciated. If you have ideas for improvements or features you’d like to see, please share them. Thank you for playing, and I hope you enjoy your time on the island!

hello, do we get any benefits out of rebirth?
You get the curse upgrade, which increases gold and XP gain by 10% each level. It also adds the chance to spawn a cursed tree, which grants buffs when sold.
Other than that it also offers new skins.
Wow pretty great game I would reconmend this so much to try out.
Thanks for playing and for the kind words
It's a fun game. The rebirth mechanic seems a little underdeveloped at the moment. Each rebirth cycle is essentially the same, making it a little tedious to complete. Also, it's a little strange that the curse log buffs don't stack. In later rebirths, curse trees can spawn in quick succession. Being unable to take advantage of this is a little frustrating.
Thanks for playing.
The rebirth is more or less just a reset. I agree that the game could have had more of a progression system to it, like unlocking more tree tiers and such.
Stacking of curses could be fun, it would probably be quite overpowered, but fun nonetheless.
Thanks for the suggestions, as mentioned in other posts, I'm not actively working on this any more, but there might be some small updates here and there. I've added your suggestion to the backlog.
I'm really, REALLY enjoying this game! Can't wait to see it further developed!
So far I think the balancing is pretty okay, but I wish the respawn did slightly more and also that it was available earlier... maybe around tier 10? First life tiers 11-15 took ages and I had to just let the game play in the background for a few hours... I think being able to respawn when the game feels slow instead of right at the end would make it feel a bit more interactive.
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it.
I see what you mean, it would also allow for a more progression style game, increasing a tier or two after each rebirth.
I won't be developing this one much more, maybe a little content update here and there. But thanks for the suggestion, I've added it to the backlog.
Late game scaling could use some work. First rebirth it took no more than an hour or two to start making mid-high T, and then Qa, Qi, and Sx took multiple hours of idling and upgrading to break through respectively. That's my only complaint, though. The game is good fun so far beyond that
Ummm... you an change that in the settings just click the ranch in the game
I meant that the cost of upgrades goes up (scales) much faster than the amount of money you earn from them. Not the interface/menu size scaling
oh, sorry
Hi thanks for playing and for the feedback.
It does slow down quite a lot later in the game and does turn more into a idle game.
Hopefully you've gotten a rebirth or two, which should make it end game a lot faster
Found this through RCE. Bravo, a numbers go big game is always fun! Would love to see more explanation in regards to the curses and what that does, on the second rebirth now and i have no idea what buying it does in regards to the gameplay. Enjoying it so far though! Bravo!
Thanks for playing and for the kinds words.
There could definitely be some improvements on the explanation of things. The curse adds 10% gold and XP gain, and makes it possible to spawn curse trees, which gives random buffs when selling.
scaling is a bit punishing
I'm guessing you mean the end-game? It definitely turns more into a idle game at that point.
I think this was where I had some difficulties balancing the game. But yeah, it most likely could be less "idle" in the end-game
Yeah, the upgrades get gradually more expensive and you get less and less value out of them. So the game just gradually slows to a crawl.
For some reason I lost all my progress. Rip rebirth #5. Are you planning on adding a stats tab? Like current tree health/damage per swing? It could help with priorities when upgrading.
Also it's a bit obscure what the curse does when applied.
Sorry about the progress you lost. What OS and browser where you playing on? The save file in stored in the cache, meaning if it was cleared, the save file was deleted too.
I'm currently working on a windows export also, where this issue does not occur.
I have planned to implement a stats tab and a trees tab. And the current curse upgrade is a bit obscure. The next update will enhance it.
Thanks for the feedback
I'm using brave on an Android 15 device. If the save is in local cache I'm not surprised if brave deleted it at some point. Also explains why my save didn't follow when I switched to Desktop.
+1 for the export feature.
what doe the rebirth curse do????
Currently increases gold and XP gain. +10% per level.
It'll have other effects in a later update.
Aa good to knw. Thanks for your reply :)
I asked this in another post on the dev log, thank you for clarifying. Love the game thank you!
the quick spawn price change was noticeable so quickly, and I didn't expect it to be lower prices! awesome. this game is surprisingly fun, it's a bit grinding but I think that's what makes it fun, I hope you get to this make this game go super far.
(Hopefully it was actually lowered prices, but I do remember it being in the ts when maxing it out, my other playthroughs)
Thanks for the kind words.
There was quite a change to the price of the quick spawn upgrade. It just didn't feel right having to upgrade it in the late game.
Nice simple and fun game. Hope you keep expanding on it! I'm at tree level 14 now on my first run. hope there will be more prestige options and gains.
Edit: would be fun addition if you could pause the lumberjack to stock up on enchants before chopping the trees down! :)
Thanks for the kind words, glad to hear you enjoyed it. Definitely plan to implement more feature for rebirthing.
Pausing the lumberjack could actually be fun. I've added it to my notes.
thank you GaardboDev for keeping me me entertained while I do busywork 😁
I noticed a typo in the axe scope upgrade, I'll let you find it 😈
Glad you enjoyed the game.
The typo will be fixed on the next update 😁
How do you do prestige in this game?
I am currently at tree level 5, everythigng costs millions.
and my guy chops down everything immediately, even me and the planter working together cant keep up.
left side stats are all shy of 200 right now.
and I dont see any opther upgrades.top left yellow up arrow has been useless since the beginning, same for the top right green check mark sign that you can switch to but has no upgrades to purchase.
settingsdont mention prestige anywhere either :-/
I am running it in chrome while doing my actual stuff in firefox and the game doent run if it aint visible. and I dont feel like sitting there, clicking spawn every 3 seconds and see him hit that one odr 2 trees down before we wait for cooldown again.
while it takes ages to accumulate enough money for even one ugprade (each tree gives like 23k, one ugprade costs like 1 or 2 million.)
The rebirth (prestige) option appears as an upgrade in the late game (about tree level 15).
As for the general balancing of game, it can be a bit slow in some parts and I am always trying to make it more balanced throughout the game, but being a semi-idle game, it'll include some idle time.
Anyway, thanks for giving it a try and for the feedback. You can follow the development, and give suggestion on X, Instagram or BlueSky (Linked in the description).
Okay 3 Rebirths... What can i do with it?
I like it so far
how do you get ur first rebirth?
It's an upgrade in the end game (tree level 15+)
how do you rebirth???
It's an upgrade in the end game (tree level 15+)
3 rebirths!? Well played :D
I'm currently working on adding content to rebirths.
Just finished upgrading for the best tree, took me a few hours!
Great game! The game is simple yet very captivating! Love the idea with mages and multiplying!
I second the suggestions that were in that tread before. Also, the game startes glitching when speed is maxed out. Maybe classical ascending a bit earlier on the path can be good, but it is up to you creative vision! All in all, great game, will recommend to my friends!
Thanks for the feedback. glad you enjoyed it.
I'll see if I can optimize the game a bit, a handful of users have experienced issue in the late game.
This is neat, I'd love to see where it goes
I really like this game. The main issue I have with it is the timer on the spawn tree button, its too slow. I don't mean in a balance way, but in a playability way.
Most people can get into a rhythm pressing a button, but anything over 2 seconds and it becomes very hard to 'know' instinctively when it will come off cooldown, so you end up just clicking constantly.
A shorter cooldown on it makes it easier to get into the rhythm of just pressing it when it comes of cooldown without needing to stare at it constantly or click all the time.
The other thing would be to add a loading bar type effect over it so you can see when it will be available again.
It's the very first thing anyone who plays the game interacts with so it needs to be 'perfect'.
Thanks for the feedback.
In the coming update, the spawn cooldown can be decreased. I plan to have it released very soon.
I've planned to add some sort of timer/indicator for the button in the future.
So, for a POC, it’s probably ok.
For an actual game… well, it’s just frustrating:
Thanks for the feedback.
Yes it is a short game, and was not really meant to be a long game. This was mostly just a small side project.
About the information on upgrades and skills, you're definitely right. It would probably be a good idea to add some sort of hover-over tooltip, with a more detailed description of the upgrade/skill. Personally I like the idea, of the player wondering about what the "next" upgrade does. But a purchased upgrade should probably tell the player what it actually does.
Being able to switch number formats makes good sense. I've added that to the backlog.
Nice little game! I look forward to seeing it develop.
One note: could you make the game remember which skill you're improving after loading? Currently it seems to reset to wisdom, which is quite possible to miss. I had to reload a couple of time due to the game seemingly slowing down or at least getting visually choppy (ha ha) after a long time spent on the same "session".
Thanks for the feedback.
The coming update includes saving of the current skill.
Regarding the game slowing down, did you notice if it became more frequent in the late game?
I pretty much finished the current build of the game, and had quite a bit of fun doing it! The one thing that I noticed was that as I went up the tree tiers, the spawn button seemed to refresh slower and slower, at tree tier 1, it refreshed in a little over a second, but now at max tier, it seems to refresh in a little over 4 seconds. Was this intentional? It makes it a little difficult in certain tiers to outpace your felling speed, even in the mid to late stages.
Hi, thanks for the feedback.
The spawn button always has a 5 seconds cooldown. If it did change throughout the game, it definitely was not intentional.
The next update includes adjustments to the spawn button.
I am really looking forward to your planned updates. So far I like your game very much.
Thanks for kind words.
I don't have as much time as I would like to, to update the game at the moment. But I'll have a small update ready soon, which will include a "ending" to the game.
why does this make my cpu go to 100%? like i like that game but confused how its making it go to 100%
Yeah it is quite laggy.
Wait Really ? What Browser Are You Using ? I Don't Have a GPU And Only a 8 GB RAM, And It Going Fine Even With Over 20 Tabs Opened... I Just Wish The Game Would Run On The Background. 😭😭
Hi thanks for the feedback.
The game has a lot of calculations, but I don't think that is the issue. Did the CPU run on 100% in the beginning of the game, or did it ramp up as the game went on?
The Sorcerer does introduce some effects, which might be the issue. I could maybe a setting for disabling these effects.
What would be nice I think is letting a player know that more upgrades can be unlocked if you get x resources. Otherwise you may not know if it's worth it grinding for a next milestone :D
True, that would give the player a "goal" to work towards.
Thanks for the feedback, and for giving the game a try.
I see you updated the game an hour ago, but do not see any logs on the update. Do you mind sharing what has been updated? Thanks!
Sorry, I just updated the description of the game (Updated the Would like to implement section).
I will make a post once an update to the game drops.
i like the thought behind this game but whenever i tab out the game stops which is not so great, mabye make it so the game doesnt stop whenever a person tabs out to another window
Thanks for playing and for the feedback.
I've added this to the backlog. A true idle game should be able to run in the background.
Really liking this but it does need smoother progression later on I think. I'm at tree level 14, I don't know how many there are but it hasn't been very interactive for a while and doesn't seem to run in the background so it feels like it will never end.
Thanks for the feedback, and for giving the game a try.
I can only agree with you on this one. I plan to update the progression system of the game, making it "fun" throughout the whole game.
Running the game in the background should definitely be possible for the game. I will see if I can make that possible. I know some players have been able to have the game run in the background, but I guess it's depends on the browser and the browser's settings.
I'm not sure if the sorcerer has a better chance of higher enchantment tiers or works faster as you level him up. Sure doesn't feel faster at level 5 compared to level 1.
Thanks for playing, and for the feedback.
Upgrading the Sorcerer only decreases his cast time by 1 second each time (Starts at 15 seconds). It would probably be more "rewarding" for the upgrade, to adjust it by "10% faster casting" instead. This would greatly increase the "feel" of the upgrade.
This has been added to the backlog of balancing the progression of the game.
While the current balance has its flaws, I'm not sure that a straight percentage increase would be a strict improvement. *tries to do the math* wait, they're surprisingly similar? But the current one is much more potent in the end (given I've modelled it correctly; it's bedtime)
https://www.wolframalpha.com/input?i=plot+f%28x%29%3D15-x+vs+g%28x%29%3D15*0.9%5...
I did enjoy the sorceror finally getting off his butt at the higher levels, in particular the final one where the relative speedup is yuuge.
Fun little game. My biggest issue is that it seems too easy to keep axe damage high enough to chop down the current level of tree in one hit, which made the critical and multi-hits seem useless.
Thanks for playing and for your feedback.
Early game definitely is too easy to one hit trees, making critical and multi-hits. I've noticed most players only level these skills up, once they reach the mid-late game.
I've added this to the backlog of balancing the progression of the game.
nice farm game.
-would be nice if we could downgrade skill lvls by paying gold.
so we can fine tune the farm rate, with the wizard always able to target a tree.(for afk)
-when upgrade prices go up by 900% every lvl, then there are less choices to make. since the next upgrade will be the cheapest upgrade most of the time. so, less gameplay/game mechanics. (maybe a mix of both upgrades with steep price increases and upgrades with low price increases would be good).
Thank you for the feedback, and for giving the game a try.
I definitely agree with you on the upgrade prices, especially late game. I'd like to update the progression system one day, by adding more balancing of the pricing, as well as add more upgrades.
I've been trying Lumberer Island out, so far I'm up to tree quality 9. So far it's a nice, relaxing game. I can see you've been putting out updates, I hope it turns out the way you want it to.
Thanks for giving it a try and for the feedback.
Glad you're enjoying it so far. There are definitely more features and adjustments I would like to add.
what does the sorcerer do
Periodically enchants a tree, increasing the value from it
should probably list that somewhere
True, I'll probably add a hover-over text to upgrades with a more detailed description
